Citizen M Geneva | boutique hotel

In September 2020, the first CitizenM opened in Geneva. The former Maison Bonnet commercial building, built at the end of the 17th century, is located in the heart of the city center not far from Lake Geneva at 40 rue de Marché.
Monoplan was commissioned by the owner PSP Swiss Property to restore and convert the historic building. In addition to the new use as a CitizenM brand hotel with 144 rooms, two long-time tenants remained on the base floor: The shoe store Aeschbacher and the watch manufacturer Swatch.

During the restoration, changes made to the building in the 1990s were reversed. For example, the canopy on Rue de Marché was removed again and the existing windows were replaced with French windows in the original style. After the restoration, the building complies with the latest energy standards and has the HPE certificate.

A highlight is the historic courtyard, which is accessible from both the hotel and the Aeschbacher store after the renovation.

The rooms as well as the public areas of the hotel on the first floor meet CitizenM’s design standards. They allow for a nice ambience at a good price. Therefore, most of the rooms have a very compact design. The wheelchair accessible rooms are in the dimension corresponding to conventional hotel rooms..
