RUBY MIMI HOTEL ZÜRICH
Monoplan has been commissioned to design the first two Ruby Hotels in Switzerland, and on October 18, 2021, the Ruby Mimi Hotel Zurich, located right next to the main train station, opened. The second Ruby Clair Hotel project is expected to open in Geneva in 2022.
The former office building “Du Pont” on Beatenplatz square in Zurich is being converted into a hotel. The ground floor used to house “going-out” venues that were known all over town: the restaurant “Movie” and the ABC cinema. As well as housing the lobby, this area of the new hotel will also feature another public restaurant.
Part of the conversion work involves the complete restoration of the supporting structure, stairwells, façades and roof structures, which for the most part are under a preservation order.
For the interior of the hotel, the design guidelines set out by Ruby Hotels are being executed with the utmost respect for the history of the building. One example is the foyer – which serves as a dividing space between the hotel and the restaurant – where the representative architecture will be particularly accentuated.
In order to generate an elegant and subtle yet representative appearance, classic features are being used. Surrounding wall friezes, textured wall surfaces, terrazzo flooring and seating alcoves will give the vast room character.
